Professor Chiu graduated and received his MD degree from Taipei Medical University in 1995 and his Ph.D. degree in Preventive Medicine from National Taiwan University College of Public Health in 2010. He is currently the clinical professor at National Taiwan University College of Medicine; attending staff, chief of the Health Management Center, and chief of the Department of Integrated Diagnostics and Therapeutics of National Taiwan University Hospital.

He has led the Taiwan Colorectal Cancer Screening Program and the Joint Program of Colonoscopy Quality Assurance Program since 2015 and has been devoted to the educational and research activities in the field of colonoscopy practice and colorectal cancer screening in Taiwan and overseas as well. He was invited to many overseas conferences and live demonstration courses for sharing his experience of colorectal cancer screening, and advanced colonoscopy therapeutic skills like EMR or ESD. His researches were awarded in Digestive Disease Week (distinguished abstract 2015, 2016, 2020; plenary session 2012, 2021) and he was also awarded Cancer Vanguard Award (2018) by the Taiwanese government for his contribution to the colorectal cancer screening activities.

He currently serves as the secretary-general of the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan (GEST)(since 2018), the Asian co-chair of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) CRC Screening Committee (since 2021), associate editor of Digestive Endoscopy, and deputy editor of Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Alberto Larghi is currently part of the Digestive Endoscopic Unit of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario IRRCS in Rome. He is focus on Endoscopic Ultrasound and is the founder of the EUS Service since he moved back to Italy from the United States in late 2005.

After graduation from the Medical School of the University of Milan in Italy, Dr Larghi started a PhD in Clinical Methodology and in 1997 moved to the United States where he performed a Residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, NY, followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Columbia University Medical Center, New York, NY. He finally performed an extra year of training in Advance Endoscopy at the University of Chicago, under the supervision of Prof. Irving Waxman.

Initial research interests contemplated development of techniques and needles for acquisition of tissue sample for histological evaluation. This was followed after the introduction of LAMS, by the participation in many clinical studies, included evaluation of new devices for interventional EUS. Finally, Dr. Larghi is now exploring new therapeutics tools for treatment of malignant neoplasia.

Dr. Larghi has published more than 240 peer review manuscripts and 12 books. He is reviewer for many Journals and in the Editorial Staff of Digestive Endoscopy.

Prof. Messmann is the Medical Director of the Department of Gastroenterology and Head of the Interdisciplinary Endoscopy Centre at the University Hospital Augsburg, Germany, which is one of the largest in Europe.

His focus is on gastrointestinal oncology, intensive care medicine and interventional endoscopy. His Unit was awarded by the Journal Newsweek as “World´s Best Specialized Hospitals in 2023”.

Professor Messmann is one of Europe’s leading experts in diagnosis and treatment of early GI-neoplasia and is practicing ESD since 2003 and now leads one of the largest center using the technique in Europe. Professor Messmann was also involved in developing the European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Guidelines for ESD. He is also an expert in Artificial Intelligence in Endoscopy and has developed an AI-tool for diagnosis of Barrett´s neoplasia.

He is the current president of ESGE and General Secretary of the German Society of Endoscopy (DGVS).

Dr. Mori is a gastroenterologist and associate professor at the University of Oslo, Norway. He contributed to various aspects of AI-related research in colonoscopy, including development, testing, and clearance of regulatory approval in both Europe and Japan. He is currently leading a large-scale, EU-funded project “OperA” to establish the value of AI in colon cancer prevention.

Prateek Sharma, MD, FASGE, FACP, FACG is Professor of Medicine and Director of the GI Fellowship Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Dr. Sharma has been at the forefront in improving diagnosis and management of GI diseases and cancer, specifically in esophageal diseases, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, digital health and endoscopic treatments. He is a world- renowned physician, teacher, and educator.

Dr. Sharma has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. He has over 400 publications, including original articles and book chapters,

and is regularly invited to present at major national and international meetings. In addition, he has co-edited several important books. Dr. Sharma has and

continues to publish in several high-profile national and international journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal

Medicine,  Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Sharma is currently a Governing Board Member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.                          

He is the past President of the International Society of Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE). Dr. Sharma has recently been named as the chair of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) task force on Artificial Intelligence. In addition, Dr. Sharma has received several international awards including the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) Master Educator Award, the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Research Mentor Award and the ASGE Distinguished Endoscopic Mentoring Award.

Taejun Song is a professor of gastroenterology division at Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Song received his medical degree in 2000 at the Han-Yang University School of Medicine and completed training in internal medicine at Asan Medical Center in South Korea. He completed two years of GI fellow training program at Asan Medical Center. He also obtained a Ph.D. and Masters from Ulsan University.

He worked as a research fellow in 2016 and 2017 at the Johns Hopkins hospital in the USA. He studied on the NGS for early detection of malignant IPMNs and new biomarkers for pancreatic cancer.

He is an expert in ERCP and pancreatobiliary EUS/EUS-guided intervention procedures. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on pancreatobiliary diseases and has received numerous academic honors, including the Marsha Dreyer Award at the DDW 2010.

Yoji Takeuchi is currently a deputy director of Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Osaka International Cancer Institute.

Dr. Takeuchi was awarded the Best Reviewer Award of Digestive Endoscopy in 2012-2018. He is an associated editor in Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Digestive Diseases, and DEN Open, and is an editorial board member in Endoscopy.

Dr. Uedo is a gastroenterologist and clinical investigator in the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology, Osaka International Cancer Institute (Formerly Osaka Medical Center for Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases.  He graduated from the School of Medicine, Kagoshima University in 1992.  He has joined the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the Osaka University.  In 1994, Dr. Uedo started his training in gastrointestinal oncology and endoscopy in the Osaka Medical Center for Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases.  His current research interests are 1) clinical application of advanced endoscopic imaging into diagnosis of digestive tract cancers, 2) endoscopic treatment of superficial cancers in the digestive tract and 3) how to teach and learn advanced endoscopy technique.  He is a councilor of Japanese Gastroenterological Endoscopic Society, Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, and Japan Esophageal Society, and Japanese Gastric Cancer Association, and an international member of American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.  He is serving as a visiting professor in Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital, and used to serve as a visiting professor in Lund University Malmoe University hospital, and Chinese PLA general hospital.

Dr. Yahagi is a professor of medicine and a director, division of research and development for minimally invasive treatment at cancer center, Keio university school of medicine in Tokyo.

Dr. Yahagi graduated from Niigata University School of Medicine and received M.D. in 1987. He completed residency program in general internal medicine at Tokyo Teishin Hospital in 1989 and stay one more year as a staff physician at the department of Gastroenterology in the same hospital. He moved to the University of Tokyo in 1990 as a faculty member of the 1st department of internal medicine and worked there for 15 years. During this period he accumulated his experience for endoscopy procedures and conducted basic research especially for gene cloning of enteropepitedase. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 1998 based on this basic research. In addition to basic research, he pioneered one of the original technique of ESD using a tip of thin type snare at the University of Tokyo. He was promoted as a director of gastroenterology department and endoscopy unit at Toranomon hospital in 2005 and he build up a very strong team for therapeutic endoscopy and conducted many ESD procedures. He moved to the Keio University as a professor of medicine in 2010 in order to carry on further investigation for minimally invasive treatment of GI tumors.

Dr. Yahagi is not only one of the pioneer of ESD technique but also an inventor of many devices for ESD including flex knife, dual knife, dual knife J, endolifter and bipolar hemostatic forceps. He also developed new techniques of therapeutic endoscopy such as the water pressure method and the string clip suturing method. He has participated as an invited guest faculty member at many international meetings around the world.

Kenshi YAO is a Professor at the Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital in the Department of Endoscopy since 2012. He is a Fellow of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, The Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association. 

He was awarded Academic Honorary Award of Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy in 1996, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2013, The 17th and the 18th Shirakabe Honorary Award in 2011 and 2012, and Nishi Memorial Award of Japanese Gastric Cancer Association in 2015.

He is specialized in gastrointestinal endoscopy and clinical management of gastrointestinal disorders except for liver, pancreas and biliary disease.  He has developed magnified endoscopy technique in the stomach and established diagnostic system (so-called “VS classification systema) for the magnified endoscopic diagnosis of early gastric cancer. He also has established e-learning system for improving endoscopic detection of early gastric cancer.

Philip Chiu is currently Professor and Chief of Division of Upper GI and Metabolic Surgery, Department of Surgery; Director of Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center; Director of Endoscopy Center, Institute of Digestive Disease; Director of CUHK Chow Yuk Ho Technology Center for Innovative Medicine and Associate Dean (External Affairs), Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He is also the President of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA). Professor Chiu graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1994 with two scholarships. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2001 and received his Doctor of Medicine from CUHK in 2009. Prof. Chiu is first to perform endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for treatment of early GI cancers in Hong Kong in 2004. In 2010, he performed first Per-oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) in Hong Kong as well as pioneering world first robotic gastric ESD in 2011, followed by world first robotic colorectal ESD in 2020. His research interests include esophageal cancer management, minimally invasive and robotic esophagectomy, novel endoscopic technologies for diagnosis of early GI cancers, endoscopic surgery as well as robotics for endoluminal surgery. He has published more than 370 peer reviewed manuscripts and 6 book chapters. He has received numerous prestigious awards including State Scientific Technology and Progress Award from People’s Republic of China in 2007, 2nd class award in Technological Advancement, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 2011. His research on POEM was awarded best of DDW 2011 and first prize of ASGE world cup of endoscopy 2012. He was selected as Asia Pacific Digestive Week JGHF Emerging Leader Lectureship in 2016 and Global Outstanding Chinese Youth 2016. He received the Gold Medal with Congratulations from Jury, 47th International Exhibitions of Inventions of Geneva in 2019 and Spirit of Hong Kong Award on Innovation in 2020. He is currently co-editor of Endoscopy and subject editor for Surgical Endoscopy.

Siu Fung Lam is currently an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) of the Endoscopy Centre at Prince of Wales Hospital, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He graduated from the School of General Nursing and became a registered nurse at Prince of Wales Hospital in 1998. He has worked as an Endoscopy Nurse at Prince of Wales Hospital since 1998.

 

He obtained his Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration) from the Monash University, Australia in 2001. He has completed the Post-registration Certificate Course in Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Nursing and he has also obtained the qualification to the title of Specialty Nurse in Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Nursing by the Hospital Authority (HA) Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies (IANS) in 2007 and 2011 respectively. Besides, he also obtained his Master Degree in Nursing (Distant Learning) from the University of Ballarat, Australia in 2012. In order to keep up with the advanced knowledge development in gastroenterology and endoscopy, he has finished his Master Degree of Science in Gastroenterology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2015.

He was invited to be the lecturer of Post-Registration of Certificate Course (PRCC) in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nursing held by Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies (IANS) and Hospital Authority (HA) Institute of Health Care, and Hospital Authority, New Territories of West Cluster (NTWC) in 04 December 2021 – 03 September 2022 deferred to 26 November 2022 due to emergency response). The topics were included Nursing management in small bowel examination and Crisis management in Endoscopy. She graduated from the School of General Nursing in Caritas Medical Centre in 2001 and was an ICU nurse until 2010, with the Post-registration Certificate Course (PRCC) in Intensive Care Nursing completed. Since then she focused on exposure to Endoscopy Nursing. She had been working in the Endoscopy Centre in Prince of Wales Hospital since 2014 with completion of the PRCC in Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Nursing and its qualification of Specialty Nurse recognized by the Hospital Authority in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Yuen Yan is currently an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) of Endoscopy Centre at Prince of Wales Hospital. In 2001, she graduated with bachelor of Nursing from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Later in 2005, she obtained her Master of Nursing from CUHK. She worked as an endoscopy nurse since 2012. She has been participated in live demonstration endoscopy workshops in Hong Kong over years.

She completed the Post-registration Certificate course (PRCC) in Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Nursing which held by Institute of Advance Nursing Studies (IANS) of Hospital Authority with credit in 2015. She is presently the associate member in the Hong Kong Society of Digestive Endoscopy (HKSDE).


She was invited to be one of the guest speakers on the topic of Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) and EGI disorder for PRCC course in 2019-2021 & 2021-2022 so as to support the continuation of nursing education.
